Traditional Lands Use Consultation Coordinator

Traditional Lands Use Consultation Coordinator is responsible for administering the NRF program for Sheguiandah First Nation.  This position reports to the Band Manager.  The program information is listed below.

What is the New Relationship Fund?

The New Relationship Fund (NRF) supports First Nations, Métis communities, and Indigenous organizations efforts to:

  • build consultation and engagement capacity and expertise
  • create jobs
  • develop business partnerships
  • improve economic opportunities

 

The NRF Lead for Sheguiandah First Nation ensures that key points of program are administered under terms of the NRF agreement. Program initiatives and on-going projects to date are highlighted below.  They include the following:

  • Support in conducting a Traditional Knowledge & Lands Use Study
  • Meet with Ministry and Government officials to discuss Industry Opportunities.
  • Economic Development. Responding to permits, dealing with MNRF
  • Create Consolation Policy and Protocol
  • Create Impact Benefit Agreement for Sheguiandah First Nation
  • Research Resource Revenue Sharing in our area and possibilities of partnership
  • Finish mapping project
  • Conduct environmental land studies
  • Advise on future economic development projects
  • Traditional Lands Knowledge Sharing – Teachings on old practices used by the nation – hunting, trapping, fishing, arts, harvesting medicines, quillwork, basket weaving, cooking, preserving foods.
