Health Centre

The Sheguiandah First Nation Health Center is both a medical clinic and an administration office for health and wellness.  The Health Manager oversees all programming and manages departmental staff.  The Health Centre consist of programs ranging from Community Wellness, Family Well-Being and Traditional Life-Styles.  Medical Transportation and health clinics are an important part of Health Center. Here is a list of programs currently offered at the Health Clinic as part of the Sheguiandah First Nation Health Imitative.
  1. Community Health Representative/Health Manager. Program and operations managed by the Health Manager. Duties included:
  • Community advocacy for visiting professionals.
  • Advertising and community awareness of available supports.
  • Manage health centre staff
  • Facilitate programming that enhances the lives of our community members
  • Diabetes education/support programs
 
  1. Family Well-being. This program fosters support for families through well-being and mental health. Duties include:
  • Facilitate programming that supports families (on and off reserve)
  • Advocate the importance of extended family and community
  • Facilitate programming that enhances the mental health of family members
 
  1. Community Wellness Promoter. This program promotes Healing and Wellness to SFN members.
  • Advocate and promote food security for our community members
  • Provide referrals for food security/mental health support
  • Facilitate programming that enhances the lives of our community members
 
  1. Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator: Promotes Health alternative to the Members oi SFN.
  • Facilitate programming that enhances the lives of our community members
  • Advocate for clients in need of support
  • Referrals for treatment
 
  1. Right to Play Community Mentor: This program is aimed at the youth of SFN to foster creative networking.
  • Facilitate meaningful and impactful programming for children and youth on a regular basis
  • Create a network of support for children and youth through programming
  • Create and advocate for opportunities the children and youth that will enhance their lives
 
  1. Traditional & Life skills Coordinator: Program focuses on traditions and culture.
  • Facilitate programming that connects community members with culture and traditions and build life skills
  • Facilitate programming that enhances the lives of our community members
  • Programming includes, but not limited to; harvesting, teachings and land-based activities
 
  1. Medical Transportation Clerk: Provides and coordinates transportation to medical appointments.
  • Organize transportation for clients to attend appointments
  • Provide support to clients when applying for Travel Agreements
  • Prepare documentation and reports for reimbursements and cheque requisitions for Travel Agreements
