Education

Supporting our students at every stage.

The Sheguiandah First Nation Education department supports students from elementary school through post-secondary, special education, and adult learning. We work with students, families, and education partners to make sure every band member has the opportunity to pursue their education.

K-12 Program

If you have a child in school, the Education department helps with:

  • Attendance tracking and student progress monitoring.
  • Liaison with school boards and education institutions.
  • Basic academic guidance for students and families.
  • Coordination during emergencies or issues that arise during the school year.
  • Payables to school boards, students, and other entities on behalf of SFN students.
  • Attendance at meetings and training sessions.

Post-Secondary Education (PSE)

PSE is designed to support your educational goals after graduating from high school. As a band member, you can apply for funding to help with college, university, and professional qualifications so you can build a career and become economically self-sufficient in the employment industry.

The PSE program covers:

  • Client applications for trades and programs over 16 months.
  • Collaboration with other educational agencies for funding and associated costs.
  • Administration and processing of payables under the current policy.
  • Monitoring of student progress.
  • Answers to client inquiries about education, colleges and universities, with basic academic guidance.

Part-time studies are offered throughout the year based on funding availability. Secondary resources are available through other agencies.
